Formation of a discrimination – learning set was investigated in the Pacific bottlenose dolphin over 80 two choice – problems. Although average trial – 2 performance compared well with some primate species, performance on later trials and on successive blocks of problems did not progressively improve. Spatial separation of stimulus cue and response locus was discussed as a possible contributor to the limited performance level.
